A mythical story of a ritual performed by diverse tribes, leading to a ceremony, connects to a larger, unified ceremony through Hatis Noit's voice.
A scene from Jomon: Story begins with Hatis Noit
NAOWAO's aim was to create the world of Jomon as if it were a mythical story. Mythology has helped human beings navigate the world since ancient times. To create the world of Jomon, she intended to tell a story in a similar sense, as this is what Hatis Noit's voice did for her.
During the pandemic, Hatis Noit rediscovered her sense of being truly alive through the creation of Jomon. In this ritualistic process, she reconnected profoundly with nature, people, and creatures, reflecting on the powerful bond between life and death that harks back to the hunter-gatherer era. In crafting the video, our aim was to capture and convey the powerful emotion of truly being alive, celebrating our deep connection with all spirits and living beings.

Navigating the theme of celebrating all life, both in reality and the other realm, presented a unique challenge for this video. The aim was to avoid abstract visuals and, instead, immerse viewers in a tangible narrative story experience. A mythical story of a ritual performed by diverse tribes, leading to a ceremony, connects to a larger, unified ceremony through Hatis Noit's voice.

A scene from Jomon: An open flower evolves in the sky, opening a path to the other world
NAOWAO began by writing a script detailing the world settings and creatures and creating unique rituals for each that they live by to connect with the spirits and the wholesome energy of the world of Jomon.
